Biography of Graffmatt

Matthieu Lainé, alias GRAFFMATT, is a painter-graffiti artist from Chambery who was born in 1986. Though he has been drawing as long as he can remember, it was only in 2018 that he decided to leave his job as a graphic designer to fully live out his passion. He discovered painting through his love of street art and hip-hop culture. As someone who knows what’s happening in the streets, the urban scene is his main source of inspiration. “It reflects the society we live in, a continually shifting landscape.”GRAFFMATT enjoys taking apart salvaged materials and putting them back together however he wants, before tackling the visual aspect. He works with several kinds of media: pallets, wood, cardboard boxes, urban furniture, and of course canvas. Using a variety of techniques, he produces a wide range of work that can be figurative, graphic, or illustrative.

Since GRAFFMATT often paints urban scenes, he wanted to create a city in the form of a spray can. The artist’s fanciful painting, inspired by the comic book universe, features a great deal of depth and detail. His “city-spray can” seems primed, ready to release its colour, as a testament to the spread of urban art in cities.
